Savings In Spain

On Thursday we had the general strike, and on Friday, the new government of Spain introduced budgets demanded that both the European Union. The savings that our government is intended: 27300 million euros. Yes, that number exists. Every man for himself.

Yesterday was a day of nationwide strike. This was the sixth general strike that is done in our democracy (since 1978), and the first that makes to the current government of Spain, which takes 100 days to rule. The strike is from the new labor reform, which among other things, lowers the dismissal, or encourages companies to hire under 30 years old or over 45 (which happens between 30 and 40 .) I will not assess whether the reform is good or bad, because I do not think I position myself in this blog.
According to the unions, the strike has been a success. According to the employers and the government, no.

The Burghers Of Calais

The Thinker came to Murcia not alone because it was accompanied by the six Burghers of Calais. The whole story of this monumental group, here (very interesting).

The Thinker: Lights And Shadows

I could not help taking a picture of the most famous work of Auguste Rodin: The Thinker.
But to publish it on this day, I was not sure which image to choose, so I show you two of the pictures I took.

Rodin In Murcia.

It turns out that we had some of Rodin statues in the city of Murcia (Santo Domingo Square), I knew it and I have visited the exhibition on the last day (yesterday, March 25th). Without doubt, the most outstanding work has been his Thinker. The collection comes from the Rodin Museum in Paris, it has brought to Murcia by  La Caixa Foundation and the Municipallity of Murcia..

Mobile Home

It's not really a mobile home, but a manufactured home that will put in some ground. These houses are equipped with everything: furniture, kitchen with appliances, air conditioning. Ready to use.

Shelter

During the Spanish Civil War was built this shelter for submarines on the side of one of the slopes of the port of Cartagena. Although not came to terminated.
At the top you can see the fortress of defense, also to defend from an attack by the National Army. Cartagena was one of the last Republican places which falling to the National side

Spring 2012

Yesterday it arrived spring. The season of flowers, the beginning of good weather, allergies. But in Spain, and the Region of Murcia has started with cold, rain and even snow.
The picture is from last Sunday before starting bad weather.

Handicrafts From Children

Yesterday was Father's Day in Spain. It is celebrated in Spain since 1948 when a teacher at a school in a poor neighborhood of Madrid, at the request of the fathers decided to honor the fathers having a party at school and giving to fathers handicrafts made by their children. That woman decided to hold the Feast of Saint Joseph, earthly father of Jesus (according to Christian tradition). Then it would add other schools, and from 1951 it became more or less nationwide (only at schools). But it was in 1953, when the owner of a department store made a national campaign and then became popular (and commercial) the idea of celebrating Father's Day.
In the picture, pencil holder made by my oldest son (4 years old) with all his love for me. And I've received with all illusion.

Town Hall House Of Santomera

This is the House Town Hall Santomera. It is an old manor house of the early twentieth century.
Santomera is a town which is about 12 kilometers from the city of Murcia. Until 1978, belonged to the municipality of Murcia. In that year it became independent (segregated), although during the nineteenth century, became independent several times. Santomera is considered the "lemon grove in Europe".

The building of the photo generated some controversy at the time, because it is located next to City Hall building (see tomorrow) that is the beginning of the twentieth century.
This building is an auditorium and a theatre.

Phoenician Ship: Mazarron II

With this photo I finish the ARQUA visiting.
This is an exact replica of the Phoenician ship (Mazarron II named) found in 1998 off the coast of Mazarron (Region of Murcia). This wreck, the original, is still under water two meters deep. It is the oldest shipwreck (2700 years) found and that it is completely (almost) intact. It found with a shipment of silver (over 2000 kg), and perhaps this was the reason for its sinking
It has not yet been determined if taken out of the water and placed in a museum or left in situ. There is a project to create a tunnel to visit the ship and to admire. Today is protected from the sun and ocean currents with a kind of steel safe.

Inside ARQUA

This is one of information boards, which, in a didactic way, explain how it works the underwater archeology.
Maybe I caught a moment a little childish, but I think that ARQUA is a museum for the whole family (you can play scale models, you can learn a lot about archaeological remains ...)

Port Of Cartagena

This panoramic view is the port of Cartagena. This is a natural port of type: military, fishing, commercial, passenger, and sports.
This has been the gateway to the founding of the city of Cartagena in 227 BC by the Phoenicians (Carthaginians). Then it would be taken by the Roman Empire.
In Cartagena have been remnants of past civilizations, such as the Punic wall and Roman theater.
Besides being a commercial port throughout its history, has been linked to the army creating a Military Arsenal that is still active, besides being  the headquarters of Spanish Navy submarines.
Today is one of the largest commercial and industrial ports in Spain thanks to its Escombreras basin also starting to emerge in the market for cruise ships, this time thanks to the basin of Cartagena.

IBAFF 2012

From 5th to 10th March is celebrated in the city of Murcia the third IBAFF International Film Festival (Ibn Arabi Film Festival), Travel and Creation. This film festival was born in 2010 with the idea of an outlet for small productions, or those film productions which do not usually get into the commercial cinema circuit.
Set up in 2010 by IBAFF Honarary Awarding the Award to the Iranian film maker Majid Majidi. In 2011, WAS marked by the Presence of the director of photography Vittorio Storaro, the Hall Screen Award, won by Isaki Lacuesta. In 2012, In the 2012 edition, the Honorary Award Will Be Presented to the Director and poet Abbas Kiarostami for Representing the spirit of loyally "Travel and Creation" in historical work, Which is the theme of This festival. ARQUA

In Cartagena, on the dock of the port, near the Peral Submarine, is the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology (ARQUA).
'ARQUA is the institution responsible for raising public awareness of the Underwater Cultural Heritage of Spain, promoting its conservation, and thus enhancing its use and enjoyment.
Its objectives are the study, evaluation, research, conservation, promotion and protection of Spain's Underwater Cultural Heritage.
ARQUA is also the home of the Permanent Observatory of the National Plan for the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage.' (Source: ARQUA)

Take a look as well as inside, the exterior of the building. In fact, the model and drawings were exhibited at the MOMA in New York.
These days, ARQUA is at the news because it could be a candidate to host the coins of "Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes" ("Our Lady of LAs Mercedes") frigate, the Spanish ship sunk off the coast of Cadiz in 1804 by the British Navy, returning from America loaded with gold and silver. Coins that Odyssey Marine Exploration had found in 2007, without notice to the Spanish government, and that after a long legal dispute at the U.S. has allowed to return to Spain.

Peral Submarine

In the port of Cartagena, you can see the first submarine built in history. It was designed and built by Lieutenant Isaac Peral. The Peral submarine was the first that: included a torpedo, was propelled by electric motors, had periscope, and solved the problem of oxygen inside. It had capacity for 12 crew. This submarine that could dive to 30 meters, was built in September 1888 (although it was in 1885 when he had the idea).
This invention warlike was intended to serve to defend the territories began to haunt the U.S.A. emerging superpower.
Despite all the innovations that warlike posed this invention for the Spanish Navy but was not supported by the ministry of defense, because the then Minister saw Isaac Peral as an opponent to head the ministry. Finally, in 1890, decided to dismantle it. But they did'nt scrapped, and so, fortunately, we still here so you can be visited the first submarine, which was also invented by a Murcian (from Cartagena).

1000 Miles

At last. After 3 years and 9 months, MurciadailyPhoto has reached the 1000 post, with some difficulty, but in the end it reached the finish line of this stage, not the end of the race (by a cyclist simile).
Thanks for sharing these 1000 experiences with me, and look forward to (at least) 1000 more. Using a chorus from a song by The Proclaimers:

Fraymon Building

This building of 1965, was built by the company Fraymon, which was home to many of the workers of that company. Fraymon was the leading manufacturer of automotive clutches (90% market share in Spain). It was founded as such in 1953 and shall we say, which lived until the decade of 80's. In the 80's changed its name to Valeo. Eventually, after several automobile crisis, they lay off to all workers (in 1980 worked at the factory in Murcia, 620 workers). Where was the factory built other buildings, and where was the office building, today is a plot, I guess waiting to build another building.

First of the month. Today is the Theme Day, and for this month: Electricity.
Because the topic is electricity, I shot this infrared lamp. Light may have many applications. In the case shown, this type of light is very useful for treatment in the area of physiotherapy.
I will not make a treaty on physiotherapy or infrared, but I want to comment that serves as pretreatment to massage, and as dry heat is also useful as a way to reduce localized pain, also in pathologies causing muscle contractions.
