Xmas Tree and Old Bridge

 That is a smaller Xmas Tree than previous post. Very beautiful.

I like on that capture, the contrast light between the Xmas Tree and the Old Bridge (I invite you to click on "Old Bridge" label to see more pictures from previous posts and to know more about that bridge).

 It seems that there is a challenge between cities at Spain about who has the bigger Xmas Tree made by lights.

That is for Murcia city: 32 meters high and 23 diameter meters on base.

The Leader's Meditation

 One of the first exhibitons at Former Jail of Murcia (Carcel Vieja de Murcia) was named: 'Heroes and Villains'. A contemporary pop-art exhibition whith pictures, realism, expressionism, surrealism, hyperrealism. It was held on las quarter 2022. 

Well, on the picture a heroe or villain (depends who's looking at it), that has been part of the near history. What is he thinking on?

Inside the Jail

 The former jail of Murcia was built at the beginning of the 20th century, inaugurated in June 1929 and closed in 1981. Now it is cultural center that it is still on the process to reform every spaces on that place.

That picture was taken inside one of the open pavillions.

*Muhámmad ibn Mardanís was the King of Mursiyya from 1147 to 1172 being also the "king" of East Andalusia (Xarq al-Ándalus) during that time. During that kingdom period, Murcia achieve a great splendor and its currency became a reference in Europe.

Palm Trees Oasis

 At north of Murcia city, there is still an oasis of palm trees. It is located at neighborhood of Santiago y Zaraiche. There are 150 years old palm trees.

 Ducks are part of the scene on Segura river.

Window Eyes

 External facade of museum of Watermills at Segura river (Museo Molinos del rio Segura). That bulding was a former mill that use the water power of river to grind the grain. Also it is the museum for natural silk industry.

Cape Palos Town

 Cape Palos give its name to a small beautiful town (part of Cartagena) near to La Manga. Beautiful to visit out of summer (less people) but also on summer season. A very recommended place if you like to dive and also for eating any kind of fish plate from fishermen at Cape Palos that they fish on Mediterranean sea. Also I recommend to taste "caldero", the most traditional rice plate on Murcian food.

Background, you can see how cape Palos goes into the Mediterranean Sea. Also you can see the lighthouse.

On the right of cape Palos, there is the famous diving area of Hormigas islands. Very beutiful place for diving.

Enrique Roca Stadium

 With more than 30000 spectators capacity, that is the Real Murcia football field (Nueva Condomina stadium, inaugurated on October 2006). A stadiun built to be use on first Spanish football league, but now, Real Murcia is playing on 2nd-B league. 

At that place, Spain National football team has played some matches. Also, it could be one of the football fields to play on a future World Cup at Spain (if Spain were selected to organize it).

Also, during summer, big concerts are performed on that place. For example, next July 20th, Iron Maiden are going to play a big concert there.

Nueva Condomina Surroundings

 On the left, Nueva Condomina football stadium facade.

That stadium was built outskirts on city of Murcia, where it was planning to built a big mall (that is a reality) and also many households (detached, buildings, duplex, ...) but only the buliding on that background was built. Those occurred during economical crisis of 2008-2009-2010.

Grosa Island

Grosa Island is an island in the Mediterranean Sea, belonging to the municipality of San Javier in the Region of Murcia, at a distance of 2.5 km from the northern area of La Manga del Mar Menor.

Isla Grosa and the islet of Farallón, like the islands of the Mar Menor, are remains of Quaternary volcanism that took place in the entire Cartagena area between 7.2 and 6.6 million years ago, during the Miocene.

The island is protected within the space called Islands and Islets of the Mediterranean Coast of the Region of Murcia with the category of natural park, it is also a Special Protection Area for Birds, ZEPA, as well as a Site of Community Importance.

The most important archaelogical site found is a Phoenician ship from the 5th century BC. C. that sank with a load consisting of ingots of tin and lead ore.

 At city of Murcia, many benchs are available to rest seeing the Segura river.

Sanctuary of La Fuensanta Surroundings

 In addition to being a place of worship (there are legends of Marian apparitions in this place), it is a place to go for jogging, go for a walk, have a picnic and enjoy the views of heMurcian valley.

Former Jail of Murcia

 On 2009 I published about that former jail. On that time I commented that it was going to be a cultural center. At the end, on 2022 it was opened (not all but a part).

Another View of Castle of Monteagudo

 The Castle of Monteagudo is located at Murcia municipality on Monteagudo town on a 149 meters rocky mountain. The surroundings are plenty of orchards of lemon trees, and also you can find small orchards of lettuces, cucumber, peppers, tomatoes, ... From the top you can see the whole orchard on Murcia.

About the castle (built during the muslim kingdom of King Ibn Mardanish (King Lobo) 12th century a.C.) and the Christ of Monteagudo on top (first installed on 1926 and destroy during the Spanish Civil War, was rebuilt on 1951), I invite you to visit labels from past published or visiting the official tourism website of Murcia.

Mercado Publico. La Union.

 The Old Public Market (Mercado Publico), also called the Festival Palace or Singing Cathedral because it has housed the prestigious Cante de las Minas International Flamenco Festival since 1978, is located in Plaza Joaquín Costa in the heart of La Unión. It has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) since 1975 and can be classified as Modernist/Eclectic. (More info at turismoregiondemurcia.es or at oficial tourism website of La Union)

That picture was taken on Feb 2022. On that period it was finishing a complete reformation of the building.

La Unión

"La Unión, a municipality located in the southeast of the region of Murcia, between the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean coast, shows a unique and singular landscape. Its mountains, with iron, manganese, zinc, sphalerite or pyrite brushstrokes, give a peculiar touch to the landscape, deeply marked by the traces that the mining industry left behind throughout centuries of activity .

The "Museo Arqueológico Romano" (Roman Archaeological Museum), is to be found in the Portmán district, (in reference to Portus Magnum, the former Roman harbour), and more precisely in the " Antiguo Hospital de Caridad" (Charity Hospital). There can be admired the biggest Roman mosaic preserved in the region, wich belongs to the I-III century AD Roman villa called "Huerta del Paturro" (Paturro's Orchard)." The Past of Cinema

 I miss those moments at cinema earing the noise of cinema projetor while watching a film. When I was teenager I was lucky to meet a cameraman (I don't remember the movie, maybe The jewel of the Nile) and entered on the projector room and saw how it was changing the film roll and watching the film from that room.

La Murta. Astronomical Observatory

 That astonomical observatory located at La Murta (Murcia municipality) was opened on 2001 and closed on 2017 due to economical crisis.

On 2022 was expected to be opened but is is still closed.

The observatory's researchers have among their achievements the discovery of an asteroid in 2008 cataloged with the code (448051) 2008 FW61 by the MPC. It has also collaborated with NASA on the "Deep Impact" and "Dawn" missions, and with the Institute of Space Sciences (CSIC-IEEC) and the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IAC).
