This set of statues is a tribute to St. Marcellin Champagnat. It is located in the Marist College La Merced (see back to school). In the center is this holy teaching two students.
Champagnat was the founder of the Marist Brothers in 1817. This saint who was born (near Lyon, France) the year of the French Revolution (1789) decided to conduct a revolution: to provide schoolin for children, and teach the Catholic religion from education.
He was sanctified by Pope John Paul II on April 18, 1999.

Nice sculptures in a gorgeous setting.
ResponderEliminarThere is a Marist School in Marikina City here, though it's the first time I've heard of information about this saint. I think I should have been named Marcella then — April 18's my birthday. ;D
