"Murcia, known for its generosity and tolerance, not only by vocation but also by tradition and history, a city that has been an example of coexistence since Christians, Jews and Muslims coexisted in peace under the reign of Alfonso X El Sabio, has become, year after year, the ideal setting to enjoy music and dance from the five continents, a valuable example of the cultural enrichment that diversity entails, and to spread a message of solidarity, dialogue, peace and respect.
The Murcia Three Cultures International Festival turns the most outstanding public spaces of the city into the agora where artistic figures from different disciplines from all over the world meet. The concerts that invade the city are performed by artists who convey, through their styles and fusions, how easy it is to approach other cultures through Sephardic music, jazz, sacred melodies, Balkan and Indian rhythms. , Andalusian music, gospel, hip hop, gypsy, Persian music or flamenco among others, get to know them and be able to banish fears, objections and rejections." The artist has used the technical: platinumtype. "This ancient photographic procedure obtains monochrome prints by contact on materials sensitized with platinum and iron salts. As Revuelta explains, his decision to work with this technique was motivated by two factors: «The appearance –it resembles human ash and also offers a perfectly matte surface, very ethereal and spiritual– and the durability –it is one of the photographic processes most stable that exist, as well as the memory of the place, which never disappears»" (text from La Razón).
On the image, left, Wilhelm Brasse, who was a prisoner at Autschwitz and a retratist who took more that 50000 pictures from that site.
On that image, all is in B/W but I have left the fire extinguisher in red as symbol to be used to put out any budding flame that starts another fire of hate and anger (not war).

To defend against these pirates, the Torre de Cope was built at the end of the 16th century." (Source: Official website from Council of Águilas)
"This tower dates from 1539 when Charles V ordered a tower to be built in Cope. There is evidence that the works were finished by July 3th, 1576. The tower suffered several sieges which in turn left the city damaged and abandoned, the first of these sieges took place two years after its handing over. Four years later in 1578 the tower was destroyed by the Turks and was then rebuilt the following year. After several destructions and remodelings in 1702 a new repair commenced, this made possible the construction of a bigger garrison. In 1756 the tower modified its structure once more, its last known remodelling took place in 1801. In the 19th century as piracy disappeared the tower lost its purpose, which led to its abandonment and dismantling. Currently, the tower has been rebuilt according to its 18th century version, becoming a paradigm of the defensive buildings on the Murcian coast" (Source: MurciaTuristica website that website show you: how to arrive, where to stay, where to eat, and so on)
The protection of the Regional Park begins in 1992 when it was declared a Regional Park. In 2000, the “Calnegre” and “Cabo Cope” Sites of Community Importance (SCI) were declared, forming part of the Natura 2000 Network, the European network of natural spaces. The latter is also included in the “Almenara, Moreras and Cabo Cope” Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA), declared in 2001. Added to this protection is the marine environment adjacent to the Park where the area surrounding the Cabo Cope crag is part of the LIC "Submerged coastal strip of the Region of Murcia". Although, since some decades, it has had a very remarkable tourist side.
Although the origin of the town comes from XVIII century, there are remains caves from Neolithic, cave panting and also remains from Romans.
It is a very nice place to visit for their beaches on summer but also on the rest of the year.
Águilas is well known by its Carnival that has been declared as International Tourist Interest in 2015.
I very recommend to eat prawns from its coast and every fish captured from their fishermen.
The name Águilas means "Eagle" and come from Eagles Crag.
