Admiral Isabel Barreto. 1st Woman Admiral in History.

 Well, it is seemed just a name of a street at neighborhood of La Flota (The Fleet), but, there is an awesome history behind. It is nice to walk on streets looking up, so as not to miss some details.

"Isabel Barreto de Castro (Pontevedra, Spain, 1567 - Castrovirreyna, Peru, 1612) was a Spanish navigator, considered the first woman to hold the position of admiral in the history of navigation. She was the wife of the navigator Álvaro de Mendaña, skipper of several expeditions through the Pacific Ocean and discoverer of the Solomon Islands and the Marquesas Islands, whom she accompanied on his last voyage.

In September 1595, they discovered the Solomon Islands, where Álvaro de Mendaña died of malaria in October 1595. But before Mendaña died, he appointed his wife as governor on land, and her brother, Lorenzo Barreto, admiral of the expedition, but Lorenzo died a few days later and Isabel took charge of command of the expedition, as "forerunner of the Ocean Sea."
