Holy Wednesday 2026: The Red Explosion of Blood in Murcia
On Holy Wednesday, Murcia is awash in its most emblematic colour with the procession of the Archconfraternity of the Most Precious Blood, the oldest procession in the city. This mosaic of images captures the essence of "Los Coloraos" (The Reds): from the effort of the bearers beneath the heavy Baroque thrones to the detail of the short tunics and embroidered stockings, a unique attire that evokes the city's agricultural roots. For visitors, it is a day of utmost generosity in the streets. As the floats from the school of Salzillo and his successors move forward, thousands of penitents distribute sweets and Easter cakes. It is the heart of Holy Week 2026, where faith is experienced with a chromatic intensity and a joy found only on the banks of the Segura River.
