Hell Under the Cathedral: The Companions of Avernus.
Continuing with more images from the 175th anniversary of the Burial of the Sardine. In front of the imposing Baroque facade of the Cathedral, the procession turns red with the arrival of the underworld figures.
The combination of flares, thick smoke, and hooded figures creates an almost surreal atmosphere, where fire seems to erupt directly from the stones of the square. In this 1919 reenactment, the contrast between the solemnity of the illuminated stone and the controlled chaos of the red lights reminds us of the satirical and pagan origins of this festival.
