Giants taken St. Peter's Square
There are places that lend themselves to magic, and Plaza de San Pedro (St. Peter's square) is one of them. On this 175th anniversary of the Burial of the Sardine, Murcia hasn't just paraded; it has traveled back in time to recreate the aesthetics of 1919.
Seeing the Giants and Big-Heads rise above the crowd, with their papier-mâché faces and period costumes, takes us back to a more artisanal and leisurely celebration. The monumental scale of the figures against the illuminated facades captures that sense of wonder that, a hundred years later, continues to unite the people of Murcia in the streets. Pure living history under the light of our squares.
