R.E.M. in concert

REM play tonight in Murcia, in the Plaza de Toros.

Madrid (Spain) on Wednesday, Istanbul (Turkey) on Saturday, and finally, Athens (Greece) on Sunday night.

Rainy Day

At last it rains in Murcia. The much-desired rain arrives at the end to Murcia, after many months of drought. As always, rain creates traffic jams on the main avenues of Murcia.

In some areas of Spain were occurring floods.

Eye of the bridge

This image is one of the arches supporting the so-called "Bridge of Hazard" (Puente de los Peligros) or "Old Bridge" (Puente Viejo) which is on the river Segura.

In this photo you can see what it is the calm river on its way through the city of Murcia. At other times, this river floods suffered a stunning producing flash floods due to heavy rains. Today, it is very controlled, and it is very rare that this does happen again (because it does not rain too much).

Dancing in the street

In the area of the FICA and Victor Villegas Auditorium, is this sculpture in tribute to the dance. It is a dancer sitting on a chair while she finishes putting the tights or dance shoes.

Waiting.

Waiting.

Which is a long wait when they urgently need to go somewhere. What is expected when the bus is late. How many hours are lost waiting for either public transport or, at the tail of a building official. Anyway, you have to wait when there is no cure, and endure the bad mood it generates.

Trash parking

I dislike to show off what my city, but ...

If when we have to park in an area governed by time we have to pay ... Do these garbage containers will have to pay for the space they occupy?

As you can see, each container holds a parking lot which makes us to have a less chance of finding parking for each container of trash.

In Murcia there are very few rubbish bins underground. Only in the area of Romea and little more.

Coliseum

This building was for many years a cinema reference in Murcia. In fact, in this movie theater, it was the first time films in "cinemascope." In this cinema, when I was a kid, it premiered in Murcia: "Flashdance." What memories.

But times change, and with the new policy of putting the cinemas in malls on the outskirts of cities, it has led to close numerous cinema rooms. Today only about 4 remaining cinemas in the city.

I.A.A.F. Challenge

Next Sunday will be held in Murcia the "2008 IAAF Race Walking Final Challege." A competition equivalent to the Golden League. It will be held 20 to 50 km race walking male and 20km race walking female.

Risk prevention

A piece of Russia in Murcia

In Murcia there are many Chinese shops, but I found this store products. They sell food, spirits and gifts from the East countries, but especially Russia.

Don't abuse the fast food

In the old road of Alicante, between Monteagudo and El Esparragal in Murcia, I found this poster of a burger from a fast food company. The best thing was where it was placed opposite a cemetery. Is not it a little premonitory?
Everything must be said that I like my hamburgers, but I eat 2 or 3 per year.
But is that as soon as I saw the poster and next to the cemetery, I had to stop the car to take the picture. I could not pass up this instant. Not that the next day off is no longer.

More about Fair of Murcia

During the Fair, is celebrated in Murcia an International Folk Festival of Mediterranean.
There is also an International Festival of Tunas, Moors and Christians, and of course, like all festivals in Spain: bullfights.
It was also mounted during these dates, an amusement park itinerant.

The champion of Euro 2008 in Murcia

Last Saturday, played the Spanish national team football in Murcia. It was an event because it was the first official match of Spain in Murcia, and also was the first match after winning the championship of the Euro 2008.

Town Hall

The Town Hall of Murcia.
This building is of the nineteenth century.
In the main facade can be read: "Agua para Todos" ( Water for All). Motto of the council and the Region of Murcia, which is claimed by the water basins through transfers from other rivers in this region where both lack water.

Peace

This monument to peace lies in the garden of Floridablanca, in the neighborhood of El Carmen (Barrio del Carmen).

I think that the best thing about the photograph is the dove who is inn at the top of the monument. The dove, the symbol par excellence of peace.

As in the Alhambra

This pond is located in an area of the former Artillery Barracks.

The military, used to have upgraded its facilities very well. This site in particular, was one of their rest and recreation areas.

With these Arabic style arches in the background, it seems that we were in the Alhambra in Granada or Cordoba.

Cross with caution

In Murcia there is a campaign to prevent knock over of pedestrians, promoted by the city of Murcia and the RACC (Royal Automobile Club of Catalonia)
The campaign slogan is:
"1 in 4 seriously injured in traffic accidents is pedestrian. Attention! We are all pedestrians"
So, be careful when crossing.

It is still summer

It is still summer, and if not what you think, here's the temperature at 19:00 yesterday.

Murcia city is usually quite hot in summer, even reaching 40 degrees centigrade pass. But that was invented for El Corte Ingles. Until not many years ago, before widespread use of air conditioners in homes Murcia, people used to go in summer, if it had no beach house, the only mall that had to take a fresh. I am talking about the 80's.
