Last Sunset 2009

I made this picture 2 days ago and I think that it`s my best choice to dismiss this year 2009.
I think today is the day where we can look back to this ending year and seeing how things have been done, and what things have not been done (to make the year that beginning tomorrow).
The photo I took from the top of a bridge crossing the motorway Murcia-Alicante.
I wish you a happy New Year's Eve with your friends and family.

Opera And Light

From the past 25 to the present day 29 in the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga (Cathedral Square) you can see a light show and opera. Images are projected on the facade of the Cathedral (and tower) and the Episcopal Palace facade. The pictures are a tour of the Roman civilizations, Jewish, Hindu, Eastern Christian, with the theme of famous arias, religious works and popular songs.
This year marks the first time that in addition to images on the facade, there is live music. The opera singers and pianist (of Café de la Opera), are accompanied by musicians in a string sextet from the Conservatory of Music of Murcia. The light show is made by the company 'Long Time Ago'

Free Bus On Sundays

It's running in December, and I had forgotten to mention that on Sundays during December, the bus transport is free in the Region of Murcia. Since Sunday shopping centers and retail stores are open, to avoid jams, for some years (before they were in June) it is this offer to promote public transport.
Today I'm going to ride the bus for my son knows it.
In the poster you can read: Los domingos viaja en autobus, es gratis (Sundays go by bus, it's free.)

White Christmas

As I commented yesterday, it snowed last weekend in the Region of Murcia. Here, temperatures fell to eight degrees below zero (Celsius), though there were areas in Spain that reached 20 degrees below zero.
In the small picture you can see the temperature was at noon. The snow picture I took from the municipalities between Mula and Bullas.

Molina Sánchez Was Going To Paint The Angels.

Yesterday was buried the murcian painter José Antonio Molina Sánchez. The wake was held in the Museum of Fine Arts of Murcia. I think it was the best place to bid farewell to this great artist from Murcia.
A few weeks ago, when it was already pretty bad, he said he would continue painting the angels in heaven.

In the next two days I will show you some of his works.

The Painter Will Paint No More Angels: José Antonio Molina Sánchez

Today I recover this photo from April 2009. I do as a tribute to painter Molina Sánchez Murcia he died yesterday. He is the painter of angels. Here you can see the full post of this image.
I was lucky to meet him personally in my mother's house where he had many stories about his life.
We'll always have his works, and my fate will be in addition to having known the artist, man.
Here you can read a press article (in Spanish) where you can find his biography.

First Snow

Well here is the only picture I could get the first snows have fallen in Murcia. The photo is from yesterday (about 14:00) from my work. As was a sunny day in the afternoon there was not snow on that mountain. Elsewhere in the Region of Murcia snowed enough.
As an anecdote: even if people think that Murcia has an almost tropical climate, it also snows. There is even a Murcian ski federation. In fact, the federation has had an Olympic champion in Olympic winter games in Salt Lake City in 2002 (Johann Mühlegg). A name is nothing Murcian. This is a German who became a naturalized Spanish in 1999 and earned two gold medals (though later removed by the doping).

In Spain, on Sunday began to enter a cold weather front from Siberia. This front came to Murcia in the evening yesterday and in the Region of Murcia has snowed. If I can, I'll take some pictures this afternoon.
As I show this colorful floor of a children's playground is located in New Condomina mall.

Christmas Tree

Like every year around this time, I go to the nursery for afforestation (which is in El Valle Perdido - Lost Valley) to buy the Christmas tree. For only 5 euros you can buy a pine tree in many sizes.
Upon completion Christmas time, unless you want the tree, you can call the municipality of Murcia to collect it and use it for reforestation of the mountains.
The photo is from yesterday.

On The Beach

One of these festive days ago, I was on the beach. The truth is that the day was sunny, inviting for a swim, but I dared not, for me the water was very cold.
By the way, I think I left a very pretty picture. It's just I did, no retouching.

Bridge. De Puente.

Yesterday was held in Spain, the Spanish Constitution Day (information about this day in that post). As the party was on Sunday, the holiday has passed over to Monday (only in Murcia). And tomorrow is also a party in Spain: the Immaculate Conception, a Catholic festival of Christian origin.
So our company has closed two days until Wednesday and I will not return to work to that day. ;)

Museo De La Ciencia Y El Agua. Museum Of Science And Water.

This is a small museum that combines science and water, or rather, the water in science.
The best thing about this museum is that it is participatory, and all scientific experiments exposed can be manipulated to see that the theory is put into practice.
In the square above the entrance to the museum, there are several things interactive, and a sample of what is the distance between the planets and their reference to the sun (to scale).
This museum is located near the river safe, very near the beginning of the Malecon promenade and bridge Manterola.
It has the smallest planetarium in Europe.

The Evolution Of Species

This year marks the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of The Origin of Species. Therefore, at the Museum of Science and Water in Murcia (Museo de la Ciencia y el Agua) is an exhibition about the evolution of species, showing the work of Darwin and de la Espada. De la Espada was a naturalist born in Cartagena (Murcia). He was born the same year that Darwin left the Beagle headed for his great discovery. In 1862 he was elected to the Scientific Committee of the Pacific, the largest overseas dispatch of the Elizabethan Spain. The Commission was established with the aim of collecting South American material of zoological, botanical, geological and anthropological bound for the Natural Science Museum and the Botanical Garden of Madrid. During the expedition, which lasted three years, Jimenez de la Espada took over the collection of mammals, birds and reptiles. In various remittances made, sent for the first time to Europe several copies of American fauna to try their acclimatization, as the hare in Patagonia, the guanaco, the black-necked swan, the condor, and so on. These remittances earned him a reward of Société Impériale Zoologique d'Acclimatation that at the meeting of 23 March 1866, it awarded a first class medal in the division of mammals. Entryway Of Huerto De Las Bombas

When I made the photo I didn't see that it was out of focus. This is the Gate of the Garden of the Bombs in the gardens of El Malecon.

The entryway precedes a rural recreational palace whose name comes from the battle which took place nearby on September 4, 1706, leading of the Borbon triumph in the war of Succesion. The skirmish was known as the battle of the Huerto de las Bombas because of the bombs let off during the fighting. It was the first Marquis of Torre Pacheco who first adquired Huerto de las Bombas. The main entrance, which is exhibited, has two Solomonic pillars with the architrave displaying the noble coat of arms of the first Marquis of Torre Pacheco whose quarters bear the arms of Fontes and Aviles, Carrillo and Marin, supported by lions rampant and huge and peaceful savages. (Source Municipality of Murcia)
I'll try to make a better photo next time.

The Slaughter. La Matanza De Santomera.

This poster is pretty funny. It reads: "Market on Sunday in the Massacre of Santomera". La Matanza is a village in the murcian municipality of Santomera, where every Sunday is celebrated a traditional market (fruits, vegetables, clothing).
The name of La Matanza comes from the Middle Ages, during the reconquest of Spain. In this area there were numerous battles between Moors and Christians.
