Stairway To Heaven.

Today I used a title of one of the greatest songs ever in modern music: Stairway to Heaven, Led Zeppelin.
The image is of a group of sculptures located in one of the roundabouts, which is on Avenida Juan de Borbon (the lamp is not included in the sculpture, I have been cast in the photo). This is a set of poles with metal spirals, and it has in its central area a ladder, with stretches of colors.

Witnesses

Like many cities, in Murcia, there's some Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. About this religious organization I have nothing to say because I have not really studied and I have hardly any knowledge about them. If you want data from them, you have this link to wikipedia, or its website.
Memory, or as a child, or in my teens, they came in pairs to visit my house leaving several publications, including: Watchtower.

Sardine Roundabout

This roundabout is located between Avenues: Miguel de Cervantes, Mariano Rojas, de los Pinos.
This sculpture is a tribute to the sardine. In the city of Murcia there are several tributes to this fish (see another here), well, really, to the party of the Burial of the Sardine (see labels), which attracts each year to its parade around a million people.
Made of steel and glass is the work of Ismael Javier Cerezo and Javier Borgoños (Flyppy). Measures 9 meters and the total cost was approximately € 60,000

Graduation Ceremony.

Yesterday was held at the IES Floridablanca (which I said, here, some things), the Bachelor (high school) Graduation Ceremony.
I was there because my younger sister was one of the participants in the ceremony and now she is a bachelor, congratulations.
All dressed for the occasion, and I guess that then they would go to celebrate into the wee hours of the morning.

Drexco Café

Drexco Café is a great place for a coffee, among its seven coffe varieties of the world. The good thing about it is that coffee is freshly ground, which gives a great flavor to coffee. In addition to warm, and coffee, here you can take a variety of hot and cold sandwiches and cakes, and snacks.
It is located on the Trapería street, and I will recommend it to you.

Murcia: Alumbrado Público. Public Lighting.

On this picture I have little to say. This is one of the covers of lighting that can be found on the streets of Murcia.

La Casa De La Luz. The House Of Light.

5 minutes from the city of Murcia are these halls for celebrations: La Casa de la Luz. It is a building that was an old silk mill, dating from 1804.
They also feature 200 square meters of gardens.
Here, its website.

Hotel Nelva

About this hotel I have already commented something before, here. But it had not yet taken a photo to the facade. I still have not visited it, but someday I will.

Atalayas Area

This is one of the area clubs in Murcia. There are several good clubs, but if one has to go here, do not stay up late because I've seen some fights (quite strong) on the six in the morning.
Even so, a visit is not bad.
If you want to leave the disco routine in this area is Teatre, a disco where you can dine and watch a performance (bridging the gap, could look like the Moulin Rouge, but bridging the gap).

IES Floridablanca

This is the facade of the IES (Secondary School)Floridablanca.
According to its website: "The IES Floridablanca is a publicly owned center, under the Ministry of Education, Training and Employment of the Region of Murcia, which educates students of Compulsory Secondary Education and Bachelor of all terms and day shift and night."

Atalayas

This was the first shopping mall in Murcia (as known today, supermarket, shops, cinemas, bars, fast food restaurants). I remember when it opened in 1994, and the day of the opening kilometers of traffic jams formed as it was the great novelty at that time.
Today, with large shopping center open on the outskirts of the city, the number of visitors has fallen to such an extent that the theaters were closed.
About Atalayas word: The watchtower is a type of fortification used in many parts of the world. It differs from a regular tower that its primary use is military and that is usually an isolated structure. Its main objective is to provide a high and secure from which to make military observations.

Dependents Crew

Dependents Crew, so I could investigate, is a group of hip hop dance from Murcia.
I suppose that each tribe has to mark their territory.

Hospital San Carlos

This is another of those private hospitals in Murcia: USP San Carlos, which are focal points at national level. It has all the medical specialties.
Admitted in this hospital was one of my grandparents (who no longer lives) several times.
Recently one of my friends, good, his wife gave birth to a baby girl. The truth is that with the recent acquisition by the USP group, the facilities have improved considerably.

Skeletons In Crisis

Many buildings like that are unfinished because of the crisis.
This week the Spanish government took a series of measures to reduce state spending (under pressure from the European Union). Among other things, reducing the wages of state officials (5% on average), freeze pensions increase (for 40% of pensioners), reduction of government salary (15%), lower investment State infrastructure.
I think these measures will reduce spending, but I do not think that promote job creation (in Spain, the unemployment figures are above 20%).

Human Graffiti

In some areas of the city (especially on billboards that are not in use), I have found this type of graffiti. The truth is that I like. Perhaps because they are different to other types of graffiti, or because they are very simple. What has made the author, is having his own firm in the city.

Juzgados. Courts.

This is one of the buildings of the courts that are in Murcia. It is of more recent construction. This area, within a year (more or less), will become the City of Justice, as they build another building.

Wild

Believe it or not, this picture is in the center of the city of Murcia. The truth is that it is, rather, in the area of La Flota, one of the few areas left to build.
Until a few years ago (maybe 20 years) the whole area of La Flota was in this way. With this type of vegetation: shrubs, reeds, palm trees. Those who went to the Marist College of La Fuensanta, when we were little, we know it.

Ripping The Asphalt.

With the tram works, half the city is destroyed.
Hopefully when they finish the work, the city does not become a mess (and jams) for this public transport.

Republican Flag

This picture I took a few days ago, following a demonstration in favor of labor. The flag that bears the lady is in the Republic (I guess the Second Republic).
Today, this flag is not constitutional and could be fined.
Spain, under the constitution, is a Parliamentary Monarchy. Most Spanish is in favor of the Monarchy in our democracy continue as Head of State. While, yes, young people (I don't know the percentage) would like to have a referendum, because since 1978 when our present constitution was adopted, has not been asked if this Institution could continue or not.
In a blog like this, I would not pronounce.

You can see a mist covers the houses

IVI

IVI is the Valencian Institute of Infertility (Instituto Valenciano de Infertilidad). This was the first private medical center, which was the problem of infertility in Murcia. This center (Valencia) is one of the most advanced in this kind of problems of Spain and Europe.
Like any business, there are now four or five such clinics in Murcia. I mean like any business, because the problem of infertility is growing over the years, and as such we do not have a healthy life, this compounds the problem.
About the photo, part behind this clinic. Perhaps not the best view of the clinical center.

In Murcia, we have a couple of days with strong winds. In some areas, trees have been uprooted by the wind.
The picture is from the parking area where I work.

Aerodrome

Beside the highway that runs from Cartagena to Murcia, is this airfield, where you can learn to fly airplanes. The airplane that it is in the center of the image, it can not fly, but it is a relic that can be accessed.

SOS 4.8 2010. The Music Festival Figures.

During last Friday, 30 April and 1 May, was held in Murcia the Festival Estrella Levante Sos 4.8.
48 hours of music. 35 000 people each day (plus some who entered without entry, and therefore not counted.) A 100% hotel occupancy in the city of Murcia, 98% in La Manga del Mar Menor (there was more demand than hotel rooms, so there were places on the coast of Murcia).
This music festival (symposiums, art, ...) that started in 2008 with 12,000 visitors each day, in 2009, 22000, is becoming a festival of reference in Europe.
About the photo: main entrance to the Music Festival.

May Day 2010

Yesterday was held in Murcia, and in some capitals across Spain, and in the world (80 countries), the International Workers' Day. The theme of this year it has been: "for the protection of pensions, social protection and reform the financial system".
About the photo, the end of the demonstration in Murcia. The banner reads: "Employment, pensions, wages! They defend fighting".
If you want to know more about the origin of this celebration of the working class, here (wikipedia).
I build up the celebrations and today I should have post, perhaps, another photo. Today is also the Mother's Day in Spain (as every first Sunday in May). Congratulations to all mothers, and in particular, to mine and my wife (who is).
Here, the dates on which we celebrate the different Mother's days in the world. About the origin of this day: wikipedia. (below Google's tribute to mothers, in Spain)

May Theme Day: Statues

Earlier this month, and I almost forgot the theme day in the CityDailyPhotoBlog community. In fact, today I planned to publish a photo on Labor Day.
Anyway, this is a statue of the Iberian period in the Region of Murcia (here, the Archaeological Museum of Murcia website). It is between 2700 years and 2100 years. That when they put things years old (it is seen that the carbon-14 fails) is not very clear, and boundedness of years is very broad.
