Portman Lighthouse

In 1860 is given the order of the construction of a lighthouse of type 5º in Portman. Because in this location was planned in turn to build coastal defenses. In July of 1862 a commission was created to study the design of both constructions in a coordinated way. The lighthouse is built on the ruins of the Tower of San Gil (defense tower, 1596), reusing some of the materials of the same. It finally comes into operation on January 31, 1865, exactly the same day it does The lighthouse of Cabo de Palos.

Watchtower

Around Portman Bay (and Mount of Ashes) there are remains of old guard and defense positions of this coast. Already in ancient times of Rome, this bay, because of the minerals in its mountains, was already defended.

When I went to take a photo through this hole on the rock, I got angry when I saw that empty cigarettes packet. There are many people that not respect the environment.

Mining Hills

The mining mountains of La Union contain important metallic mineral deposits, mainly of lead and zinc, and was characterized by an intense mining activity already in times of Carthaginians and Romans. The mining boom of the 19th century filled these mountains with underground mining, and from 1950 onwards, open pit mining had a brutal impact on the landscape, until the mining shut down in 1991.

Graffiti Mix

This is my last post about this awesome exhibition.

Left wall.
- Top left: "Vida" ("Life") by SFHIR (Spain). His beginnings in graffiti go back to 1995 when, at the age of fourteen, he discovered in this art the ideal expression vehicle to channel his concerns. In his works he combines graffiti with various tools such as airbrushes, pistols, brushes or rollers. His work is marked by an artistic obsession, hyperrealism.

- Bottom left: "Angela" by Noe Two (France). It is one of the most emblematic figures of French graffiti. His art is shown in murals and on canvas; This self-taught artist does not hesitate to explore the different facets of graphic creation. His travels around the world and new cultures are transformed and nourished by his painting. Beyond borders, his work conveys universal emotions common to all. The painter offers us portraits of women and animals in which the colour overflows us, the looks and their intensity show an expressive and modern painting with a mixture of realism, colour and pure graffiti.

- Bottom right: "Retrato" ("Portrait") by Carlos Callizo (Spain). Doctor "Cum Laude" in Fine Arts by the University of Murcia. He has dedicated himself exclusively to painting and in recent years has experimented with murals and Urban Art, getting to participate in the Urban Art Festival "Le M.U.R" in Paris. At present he combines this activity with Professor of painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Public University of Murcia.

Right wall.
- Left: "Astronaute" by Levalet (France). Charles Leval or Levalet is one of those artists who not only creates an incredible street art, but develops it in a personal style. It was initially formed in Strasbourg, studying painting and then animation. His pieces interact with his surroundings, hide, scale and often include three-dimensional objects transformed into urban facilities. His work needs a careful localization of perfect spaces and accurate measurements, as well as inspiration when drawing.

- Right: Statue of Liberty by Blek le Rat. Here in a previous post.
