Tajo-Segura Water Transfer
As I mentioned at other times, Region of Murcia has a climate in which the lack of rain makes the Segura River basin in deficit. The benefit is the number of hours of sun a year that there are, which has generated a lot of solar stations.
Despite the lack of water, this shortage has made in Region of Murcia, will save more water than anywhere else in Spain. This form of efficiency in water savings, has made other countries (eg, Israel) are set in our Region.
But all is not save on water, also we need input from other watersheds for human supply and to maintain high production of fruit and vegetables. That was built the Tajo-Segura Transfer.
The Tajo-Segura is one of hydraulic engineering largest made in Spain. The first projects date from 1933 but finally works did not begin until 1966, within the framework of economic development projects that characterize economic planning Franco in the early '60s, gave the work completed in 1979. By this transfer, is derived from the Tajo (Tagus) River water reservoirs of Entrepeñas (Guadalajara province) and Buendia (Cuenca Province) to Segura river through the dam of The Talave.

PDO Protected Designation Of Origin
A good gift for Christmas, both to give to a person, as a gift for yourself.
In the image, three bottles of red wine from the three Designations of Origin from the Region of Murcia: Jumilla, Yecla and Bullas.
Jumilla, perhaps the best known Designation of Origin worldwide, followed by Yecla. Although, personally, I prefer the Bullas one, with a mixture of grapes Syrah & Petit Verdot, or Syrah + Monastrell + Petit Verdot, or Syrah + Tempranillo + Monastrell, or ... .
The grape variety typical of the Region of Murcia is the Monastrell.
I encourage you to taste the wines of the region of Murcia.

Last spring a couple of birds nesting in a tree in my garden. They had several offspring, but only one survived. Now, after pruning the tree (deciduous), I've gone and I could see the nest. A great work of center engineering, assuming that only use the beak.

Awards Ceremony Of COEC
On Wednesday, December 5, 2012, I was honored to attend the awards ceremony that COEC (Confederation of Organizations of the comarca of Cartagena) held in the auditorium of El Batel in Cartagena. Some 700 attendees (including part of the government of the Region of Murcia) could see how they gave awards for Business Excellence, to entrepreneurs of eight companies.
I could go because the company where I work, received the Innovation Award. A well-deserved award for the work of the owner and employees of the company, after almost 10 years of work in medicinal chemistry research.

Fritters - Buñuelos De Viento
The fritters (buñuelos, Spanish: [bu'nwelo]) are a typical dessert of the All Saints' Day. They are dumplings made with flour, butter and eggs which happens to be fried in hot oil. The mass typically has a ball shape.
The fritters can be stuffed sweet cream, chocolate, whipped cream, and so on. They are a dessert pastries displayed in early November, and is traditionally served at celebrations of All Saints.
The origin of this sweet: Sephardi Jews drawn from the tenth century to celebrate Hanukkah fried buns with wheat flour called bimuelos. The introduction of these buns in the celebration of All Saints is a Christian amendment, by the closeness to the Jewish Hanukkah.
The recipe:
- Ingredients: 200 grams of flour, 50 grams of butter, 5 eggs, ½ liter of milk, 1 small glass of water, 1 lemon or orange rind, sugar, a little cinnamon, oil and salt.
- Preparation: Deposited in a saucepan the milk and water, also add lemon/orange peel or lemmon/orange zest and a pinch of salt. Place the saucepan on the fire and when in boil, add the flour all at once and with low heat, stir well around the compound.
Increase heat and continued firing until you see that the mixture is separated from the walls of the bucket. Remove the pan waiting for the dough to warm. Add eggs previously beaten now, little by little, stirring constantly.
Once you obtain a homogeneous mass, with the help of a spoon to form making as fritters and fry them in a pan with plenty of hot oil until they are golden see. Remove the donuts and Toss them on a plate with paper towels to absorb that excess oil.
Now you just have to sprinkle the fritters with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
Enjoy it!

Dome: Basilica Of Charity.
This is the dome of the Basilica of the Charity (Basílica de la Caridad), nineteenth century.
The Basilica of Charity is located in the historical district of Cartagena, in particular in the street of the same name where stood the old Charity Hospital.
This hospital had a chapel that in 1723 became chapel (with additions in 1744 and 1746). The present church was begun in 1890 under the direction of Thomas E. Tallarie being consecrated in 1983.
Pope Benedict XVI gives the Church of Charity appointing Basilica since March 30th 2012.

This white rhino about 25 years old, arrived from another zoo (Safari Park Vergel) which was closed by the crisis (and competence of other parks), and where she lived 15 years. Never has been related to another animal of the same species (shame). Now, after about two years of stay in Terra Natura Murcia, will try that relates to a male. We'll see what happens.

Back To University
Yesterday I returned to the University of Murcia (Espinardo Campus) to go to a seminar on chromatography, and I was amazed how much the campus has grown. It's a small town. Many new buildings for faculties, bus stops, tram stops, roundabouts, traffic lights.Well, some of these things already existed, as the athletics stadium, football fields, tennis courts, ... . Each faculty is assigned a number (in a red square in the photo) to make it easier to find.
