Today I have learnt that a fortified tower is a "turret".

I have much to learn each day.

Foresighted.
At Castle of Jumilla.
This place, that is now an exhibition room that shows the evolution of the restoration of the Castle of Jumilla, it was a cistern or tank (concretely, two cisterns). On the celing there is a hole to collect the water inside.

Narrow Stairs
At Castle of Jumilla. Homage Tower.
I wonder how former soldiers could go upstairs or downstairs for this kind of stairs. Without electric lights, without railing, and carrying swords, metallic clothes, or something more complicated to wear.

Room Of The Warden.
At Tower of Homage. Main hall of the castle, main hall and residence of the governor/warden/alcaide of the castle, originally divided into four rooms. This room has the fireplace of the castle and the best lit room with large windows facing north, south and west, with stone seats.
In this room, it was the door of the castle, with liftgate, and communications hub for the upper and lower chambers.

Room Troops
On the third floor of the Homage Tower, is the living of the troops, the castle area where the soldiers rested. Here, too, they kept their weapons. On the ceiling opening, they could raise arms to the roof of the tower.
This room also had its own wood stove or bread oven.

Gladius Foris
Replica of the sword of Prince Alfonso (before being King Alfonso X the Wise). It reads: Gladius Foris (my Latin is a little rusty, and so I sought could mean: "Outside the sword" or "Sword abroad").

Castle Of Jumilla
In the fifteenth century, the Marquis of Villena, built (in the same place where a Muslim fortress was) a fortress of new plant adapted to new times and new weapons of war, like the artillery.
The current castle consists of Patio de Armas (parade ground), and Tower of Homage.
The last two historical episodes that lived this fortress, was: the War of the Spanish Succession and the War of Independence (or Peninsular War).

Castle of Jumilla. XV Century.
The situation of the hill, has allowed the occupation of more or less stable since the Bronze Age (two well-tanks are dug into the rock) until the reign of the Catholic Monarchs. There is a part of the wall made by Romans.
The first documented fortification dating from the Iberian period (fourth century BC).

The Garden Of King Don Pedro
A trip to Jumilla. Located in the north-east of Region of Murcia. It is well known for its wines.
The garden of King Don Pedro was designed in the late nineteenth century as an esplanade to host the fair. It is decorated since late 1940 with Seville tiles by Ramos Rejano, with motifs of Don Quixote and Disney characters.
In addition, this space houses a bronze statue of Don Roque Martinez, a native of Jumilla. It is the oldest garden in the city and among its vegetation can find lilac, cedar, fir and celindros.

Hermitage Of Consolation.
At Cieza, located at north-west of Region of Murcia, is this hermitage.
"According to tradition, by the year 1612, an oxcart carried an image of Christ Crucified. Passing the chapel where today is located, oxes refused to walk. In 1800, during a drought, they went down the image of Christ to pray to him; when they cried because they did not getting the rain, they saw grow their spikes with a size never achieved.
In 1895, in a second day of supplication, without the slightest sign of storm, it began to rain so that the harvest was amazing. The following year he was imposed on the image the name of the Holy Christ of Consolation.
Today it remains throughout the year in the chapel, rebuilt in 1870, and only leaves a few days before Easter to participate in the processions." (Source: murciaturistica.es)

Venus Riding A Bike
This is "Venus in bicycle" by Antonio Campillo Párraga (a famous Murcian sculptor artist that died on 2009). This Venus is located at Cultural Centre of Las Claras, but I don't know if it is a copy of the original that it is located in front of Almudí Palace or it is an original series of sculptures by the author. I like a lot the serenity in the sculptures by Antonio Campillo. I really recommended and I invite to know more about this great artist. It was also an art painter. Info at wikipedia (Spanish) here. There is a Museum House of Antonio Campillo at Ceutí (Region of Murcia)
- Here, a photo of the sculpture in front of Almudí Palace.
- Here, a mural sculpture in the facade of a bank.
- Here, god Mercury.
- Here more photos from Google images.

January 2016 Theme Day. Best Photo Of The Year.
The first Theme Day at citydailyphoto bloggers community is Best Photo of the Year. All of participants have to select each best photo from last year. A very difficult theme day. Which to select?
After take a sight to last year, I think that this photo (from last June) could be the best. The way it has been framed, also because is a funny photo (Fred and Wilma from The Flintstones, knocking to this big door of Cathedral of Murcia), and also for being ephemeral and has no possibilities to repeat it.
Also I have a list of those photos from last year that I liked more:
1.- A pair of children viewing the Children's Bando,
2.- A few artistic photo from a feetwash.
3.- Another "artistic" photo of a comb clouds.
4.- A different view of Cathedral of Murcia side with a tapa.
5.- A photo in the right place: Apocalipse Now.
6.- A mixture between artistic and to do in the right place: Sunrise in jail.
7.- Because waiting the right moment has a prize: Flying helicopter.
8.- A little bit of luck and being in the right time: Monteagudo landscape.
9.- A beautiful shot of a plant with flowers: Spring in Autumn.
10.-An awesome shot of Eagle Patrol escorting a military cargo plane: The big one.
11.-One of the last published photos here that I loved its perspective: Tren Disi.
Click here to view thumbnails of all participants, and to see which their best photo is.
I would like to wish you all th best for 2016. Happy New Year!
