Bando De La Huerta Infantil 2016
We are in Murcia with Spring Festivities. This year, the children's parade of Bando de la Huerta was changed to Easter Sunday, instead of the Easter Monday (today). So, I have many photos. Tomorrow is the big day of the Bando de la Huerta, where the vast majority of Murcian, and visitors are going to wear traditional costumes, filling the city with colour. A great party to enjoy both locals and tourists. It is an open party for living, no doubt. You are invited to come and enjoy it.
Legionary Goat
A curiosity from last Resurrection Sunday procession. This year, accompanying a group of Legionnaires soldiers, was the legionary goat, pet of the Legion.

Murcian Nazarene
We are in Easter Week since last friday, and I still had not published a photo.
One of the peculiarities of the Easter at Murcia, with respect to other Spanish cities, is the ability to give from the Murcian Nazarene.
"One of the main features that distinguishes the Easter in Murcia to the rest of those held in Spain, is handing out candy and gifts from the Nazarenes to the public who witnesses the penitential procession. A penitent in the ranks of courtship, can spread along the same, about ten or twelve kilos of candy. However, Nazarenes carrying imagery of scenes from the Bible, distribute fifty or sixty kilos during the procession.
This tradition has been developing for centuries without any historian has been able to realize what was the first Easter in which candies were delivered. There are several theories about the beginning of habit, of which two of them are as follows:
El Penitente, or nazareno row, candy delivery from reminiscing a medieval tradition by which the Church forced to restore the damage caused by faults committed in the course of public penance. The "sinner" take advantage of the anonymity of the penitential robe to deliver the goods offended those who believed appropriate in repentance." (Source: regmurcia.com)

Father's Day 2016
Three generations.
Father's Day in Spain. It is celebrated in Spain since 1948 when a teacher at a school in a poor neighborhood of Madrid, at the request of the fathers decided to honor the fathers having a party at school and giving to fathers handicrafts made by their children. That woman decided to hold the Feast of Saint Joseph, earthly father of Jesus (according to Christian tradition). Then it would add other schools, and from 1951 it became more or less nationwide (only at schools). But it was in 1953, when the owner of a department store made a national campaign and then became popular (and commercial) the idea of celebrating Father's Day.

Wild Side Of A River Mouth
In the wild side of the Segura River mouth, there are plenty of life: fishes, waterfowls, and vegetation. This was what I expected, and I remembered when I first came when I was a child.

Human Side Of A River Mouth
This is the "human" side of the Segura River mouth. I think that it is not much natural. The channeling of the river has a reason: to control the floods that occasionally occur.
When I did this trip, I expected something else, but as I said yesterday, there is even a wilder part, I will show in another post.

Image of the mouth of the Segura River. In neighboring Alicante town of Guardamar.
Shortly before reaching the sea, it has become a fork (or split) in the river. A part remains natural, the other is the image.

Water Pipes
On the border between Murcia and Alicante, are these tubes. They are located in the town of Orihuela (Alicante) which has shared centuries of history with Region of Murcia .
These tubes are part of the transfer of water from the Tagus River to the Segura River, built in 1976 (the pipes). The water carried by these pipes, is used by the low plain of the River Segura (Orihuela, including other locations), and the field of Cartagena .
Two pipes 2.35 meters inside diameter and 5.2 kilometers long, mounted on 200 pillars, six meters high.
About Tagus-Segura transfer water, more info in Wikipedia. 286km length. The origin of that transfer water was on II Republic of Spain (1932), Although the first water that arrive to Segura River from Tagus River was in 1979.

Old Murcian Jail
In 2009 I posted a photo from the main facade, talking about its history and what are going to become. Well, today, is still a closed building. It seems to be a bit slow local administration.

Cagigal
This is the main facade of the Cagigal Sports Pavilion. Inside, among other sports, football indoor and handball competitions are held . But what most striking is that behind the metal structure there is also a rockadrome of 15 meters, for beginners and experts mountaineering.
This pavilion was built in 2012. Previously, there was another Cagigal Sports Pavilion but it had to be demolished because of problems in its structure.
José María Cagigal (1928-1983) who named this sport pavilion, was a Spanish philosopher of the sport.
Some thoughts from J:M: Cagigal: "Sport allows testing general models of human behavior. In contrast to individual interests and social obligations, sport represents, according to Cagigal message, an escape, a way of hope, a path of liberation and an effective means of social integration." "The practice sport as the real sport, because it has a wealth of human values and training that must be nurtured and developed." Calls therefore for the open and spontaneous as a means of personal liberation and enrichment sport. In this regard, strongly he supported the movement of sport for all in their various formulas and traditional popular sport.
Physical education is, for Cagigal, a fundamental part of the total education of the individual. It must be the most comprehensive education of man to be closer to human nature. (Source: Wikipedia)
