The first of October starts with the Theme Day: Abandoned.
This monastery is abandoned.
It was built by the Franciscan Order in the sixteenth century under the patronage of the Marquis of Velez. From this period dates the main facade in which the shields are those referred Franciscans and Velez.
As a green oasis in the arid fields of Cartagena around the monastery lay a fertile and luxuriant orchards and gardens.
In the nineteenth century the monastery was disentailed and began the ruin of the monastery. Some chapels with frescoes of the XVII century were demolished. It was purchased by individuals who made several reforms to make private house.
Today, despite having been declared of Cultural Interest by decree of February 28th 1992, the monastery is in a lamentable state of ruin due to neglect.
It is located next to the Mar Menor, before arriving at La Manga.
All about that monastery, here (Spanish).
