"The origins of that fiesta are lost between history and legend. According to tradition, when the Templar fortress of Caravaca was besieged by the Granada Moors, around 1250, and the inhabitants needed water to supply themselves, since the reservoirs were exhausted, a group of Templar Knights crossed the Muslim site, with the consequent risk that it entailed
Unable to get water in the Campillo de los Caballeros, they loaded wine in skins on the back of their horses. They returned quickly and with a spectacular career they mocked the enemy siege to take the liquid to the defenders of the Castle, where the Relic of the Holy Cross was already kept, since 1231."
