Cabo Cope (Cape Cope) is the South limit of the Regional Park of Calnegre and Cabo Cope, with a length of coast of 17 km. It is one of the few natural spaces in the Mediterranean, of great environmental and landscape uniqueness in the regional and European context, which combines Mediterranean mountains with beaches, cliffs, salt marshes, boulevards and fossil dunes. The historical buildings and cultural elements present in the territory testify to the traditional use carried out in the area.
The protection of the Regional Park begins in 1992 when it was declared a Regional Park. In 2000, the “Calnegre” and “Cabo Cope” Sites of Community Importance (SCI) were declared, forming part of the Natura 2000 Network, the European network of natural spaces. The latter is also included in the “Almenara, Moreras and Cabo Cope” Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA), declared in 2001. Added to this protection is the marine environment adjacent to the Park where the area surrounding the Cabo Cope crag is part of the LIC "Submerged coastal strip of the Region of Murcia".
