Tranvia de Murcia. Past and Present.

 That is the most valuable public transport by users but, it is only offering services for north of the city of Murcia, although very valuable, to go to public University of Murcia and UCAM (private university), also, you can go to malls located north outskirts.

Currently it is managed by FCC (a big commpany that operates in 30 countries) at 100% since 2022 (although was part of a joint venture from 2011 as Tranvía de Murcia).

In 2009, I published a post about Tranvimur, the former company that managed the tram of Murcia from 2007 to 2010.

Back to the past. There was a first tram in Murcia in 1896 (the first tram line was inaugurated in September 2nd 1896). That tram worked powered/pulled by horses.

That first company was "Sociedad Anónima de los Tranvías de Murcia", a Spansh company, but, because there was low demand for that service, the company sold the tram line to a Freno-Belgian company in 1898, "Compagnie des Tramways de Grenade et de Murcie". That new company exchange horses for steam railcars in 1901.

In 1905, the tender changed, and a new company acquired the tram: "Société Anonyme des Tramways Électriques de Murcie", due to that acquissition, the new company electrified the service. So, in 1907, the first electric tram was inaugurated.

In 1923, the tram tender was sold to a new company "Société Hispano-Belge de Tramways et Électricité".

In April 29th 1929, tram service ceased. The competition with buses, wich began to appear, was not supported by tram.
