Dominating the Two Seas

From the base of the antennas, the horizon opens up. To one side, the Mediterranean; to the other, the unmistakable silhouette of La Manga and the Mar Menor. It's easy to understand why this location was chosen for surveillance: here, the world unfolds before your eyes. Military past and technological present united by one of the best views in the Region.

The key point that explains why so much effort was invested in building this battery in such a rugged location is the combination of the height of Monte de las Cenizas (approximately 305 meters above sea level) and the technology of the 381 mm Vickers cannons, which had a range exceeding 35 kilometers, allowing for the creation of an impenetrable defensive "umbrella."

Cartagena, as the fleet's main base and a strategic enclave, depended on this battery (and its "twin," the Castillitos battery at Cabo Tiñoso) to prevent any naval blockade or bombardment.

Constant surveillance: The view you show of La Manga and the Mar Menor to the east and the bay to the west confirmed that nothing moved along the Murcia coast without being detected from this command post.

Although, those cannons were never used.
