Orange Crush

During Cristmas season, at different locations, you can visit different Belenes (Nativity scenes*). One of the most visited is "El Belén de la Pava" (installed at San Juan de Dios Museum Church in Murcia), where there are included everyday scenes in life in Murcia during the first half of 20th century.

About picture scene. Orange Crush*, a patented product, was manufactured in Murcia during the 1940s and 50s at the Conrado Abellán factory. The orange-flavored carbonated drink was distributed by horse-drawn cart.

*Nativity scenes are artistic representations of the birth of Jesus, which include key figures such as Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus in a stable, along with an ox and a donkey, being a deeply rooted Christmas tradition in Catholic countries, originated by Saint Francis of Assisi in 1223 to teach the sacred story in a visual and emotional way, and which has become popular in homes and public spaces.

*Orange Crush was created in 1911 by Clayton J. Howell, an entrepreneur with experience in the beverage industry, and Neil C. Ward, a chemist who developed the drink's original formula. Together, they launched the beverage under the Orange Crush Company, and it quickly gained popularity thanks to its authentic orange flavor and refreshing fizz.

What made Orange Crush unique was its use of real orange peel oils, which gave it a more natural and authentic flavor compared to other drinks of the time that used artificial flavors. This innovation helped differentiate Orange Crush in the competitive carbonated beverage market.

During the 1920s and 1930s, Orange Crush expanded its presence in the United States and beyond, becoming a popular beverage in many parts of the world. The brand also introduced a number of creative and distinctive advertising campaigns, including the famous fluted orange glass bottle that became a brand icon.

In the following decades, Orange Crush diversified its product line to include other fruit flavors, such as grape and strawberry, while maintaining its commitment to quality and authentic taste. The brand went through several mergers and acquisitions, but always maintained its distinctive identity and popularity among consumers.

In 1980, Orange Crush was acquired by Procter & Gamble, and later, in 1989, it became part of Cadbury Schweppes. Currently, Orange Crush is a brand of the Dr Pepper Snapple Group and remains one of the most popular orange drinks on the market..
