The Last Stroll of the Sardine
The sardine makes its triumphant entrance in a classic carriage in Plaza de Belluga (Belluga Square), on its final procession before being burned, before the imposing facade of Cathedral of Murcia, next to the facade of the Episcopal Palace. This commemorates the 1919 parade, celebrating 175th anniversary of the first Burial of the Sardine.
The elegance of the women escorting the carriage is striking, dressed in rich gowns and imperial-style headdresses that reinforce the solemn character of this last procession before the burning.
