Convalecencia, Lieutenant Flomesta, and a little bit of History

Who was Lieutenant Flomesta? "Diego Flomesta Moya (Bullas, Murcia, 1890 – Rif, June 30, 1921) was a Spanish military officer, an artillery lieutenant in the Melilla Mixed Artillery Regiment. He died in captivity for refusing to form up his Rif* enemies and was posthumously awarded the Laureate Cross of Saint Ferdinand, 2nd Class." (Source Wikipedia)

*Rif, or Rif Valley, is an area close to Melilla (Spain) till Argelia at North of Africa: "The Republic of the Rif, also known as the Rif Tribal Confederation, was the North African republic that seceded from the Spanish Protectorate of Morocco in 1921, declaring its independence. Some confederated tribes of the Rif mountain region adopted this name to designate the territory that gained independence from Spain during the war they waged against the European country between 1921 and 1926 (the Rif War). The republic was dissolved on May 27, 1926, by the Franco-Spanish-British military coalition after the failure of the Oujda Peace Conference that same year. Abd el-Krim and the Rif leaders refused to accept the sovereignty of the Sultan of Morocco over the Rif, which the European powers demanded as a condition for establishing peace.

In 1926, the Republic of the Rif, at its greatest extent, consisted of 56 large tribal regions, in turn divided into subregions: The Rif tribes under the Spanish protectorate, the Tangier tribe (Fahs), the Iznassen tribe (Berkane Region) involved in the bombardment of Tangier in 1844 and mentioned in the Rif Berber national anthem, as well as the 4 tribes of Triffa."
