The Testament of the Sardine. Burial of the Sardine, 175th Anniversary.

The 2026 Burial of the Sardine Testament Parade marked a historic milestone by expanding its scale and spectacle to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the festival. This vibrant display of light and movement transformed the centre of Murcia into a fantasy stage, with live music, cutting-edge choreography, and spectacular costumes adorned with vibrant feathers. Featuring large inflatable figures and a far more ambitious artistic production than in previous years, the parade served as the perfect fiery and joyous prelude to the grand finale burning of the Sardine.

The Burial of the Sardine is a magical and massive festival in Murcia, declared of International Tourist Interest. Although its name sounds like a funeral, it is actually an explosion of joy that marks the end of the Spring Festivals.
Before the grand parade, the "Big Fish" (Gran Pez) and "Lady Sardine" (Doña Sardina) (godparents of the festival) read a satirical will.
The Burial of the Sardine originated in 1851 when a group of students decided to imitate a Madrid tradition to celebrate the end of Lent and fasting, symbolizing the triumph of joy over order and deprivation.
