Speleothems, Mysteries, and the Mineral Magic in Cueva del Puerto
The interior of the Cueva del Puerto reveals its most sculptural and enigmatic side. In this subterranean realm, nature unfolds a fascinating array of stalactites (hanging from the ceiling like mineral spears) and stalagmites (rising from the floor), drop by drop. These are ancient geological formations, crafted by the slow, steady seepage of water rich in calcium carbonate.
Adding to this geological display is an air of mystery: if one looks toward the upper-left section, the rock—sculpted by the play of light—appears to reveal two eyes and an open mouth, resembling a stone guardian watching over this captivating underground corner of Calasparra (Region of Murcia).
