The Jerónimos Monastery from the Campus

The monastery (Monastery of San Pedro) was built in the early 18th century at the behest of the Hieronymite monks, who sought a retreat in that area of the 'huerta'(fertile plain) safe from flooding. Declared a National Historic Monument, it has been dubbed "the Murcian Escorial."

The complex was designed by the architect Friar Antonio de San José, following the 18th-century Murcian Baroque style, and was inaugurated in 1738.

Here, a picture of the cloister.

The Jerónimos Monastery is today the seat of UCAM (a private Catholic university). Here a recommended virtual tour.

It is located at 5 km long from city of Murcia northwest.
