Stratified Skies
An image suitable for a study of cloud formations.
Altocumulus: Located in the upper section against the blue background, they form a sheet or "cobblestone sky" of small, cotton-like masses aligned in bands.
Fair-weather cumulus ("Cumulus humilis" / "fractus"): Found in the middle and lower sections, featuring flat bases and moderate vertical development, with a more compact, grayish cloud standing out in the center.
Cirrostratus or stratiform altocumulus: The diffuse, whitish intermediate layer connecting the different levels.
This coexistence of cloud layers reflects the interaction between local breezes and high-altitude currents that frequently characterize the Mediterranean climate of the southeastern Iberian Peninsula.
And that concludes the lesson on clouds. ;)
