Abarán Waterwheels Route
To understand the magic of the Abarán orchards, you must explore their paths, and there's no better guide than this information panel that welcomes visitors. The Waterwheels Route (La Ruta de las Norias) is an essential heritage itinerary that immerses us in the wise use of water that the area's farmers have practiced for centuries.
This circular, accessible route, just 4.4 kilometers long, runs parallel to the banks of the Segura River and the traditional irrigation ditches, making it ideal for families or enjoying a peaceful stroll.
The map's information circles show what awaits us along the route: the spectacular Noria Grande (the largest waterwheel in Europe still in use), the Candelón Waterwheel, the La Ñorica Waterwheel, and the Hoya de Don García Waterwheel. These authentic water-lifting devices continue to irrigate the area's traditional terraces and were declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) in 2018, with the category of Ethnographic Site of Interest.
