The Ñorica in Detail. The Smallest Waterwheel on the Route.

The Noria de la Ñorica (La Ñorica Waterwheel) is the smallest waterwheel in the municipality of Abarán (Region of Murcia), popularly known for its size. It forms part of the famous Waterwheels Route in the Ricote Valley, a traditional irrigation system of Arab origin.

Like the neighboring Waterwheel of Candelon ( Noria de Candelón), this waterwheel draws its power from the La Charrara irrigation channel (acequia in Spanish). As it turns, it raises the water to fill a small reservoir, which irrigates a mere 8 tahúllas (the smallest plot of land in the group, equivalent to 8944 square meters) in the area of the Chelo and Jacintón ravine.
