Avant-garde Architecture at the Feet of the Castle

Aerial view of the San Cayetano Visitor Center in Monteagudo, designed by the firm Amann-Cánovas-Maruri (Atxu Amann, Andrés Cánovas, and Nicolás Maruri), with views of the city of Murcia in the background.
The project stands out for its bold outer skin of perforated Corten steel, which embraces the historic hermitage of San Cayetano (with its distinctive red-tiled dome) and adapts to the hill's steep slope. The perforations in the metal sheeting filter natural light and mimic the openwork and lattice patterns of Islamic architecture, creating a unique architectural contrast between the avant-garde, history, and the landscape of the orchard of Murcia.
