Before and After: The Consolidation of El Castillejo de Monteagudo

 The first image, a current view, reflects the meticulous archaeological and architectural intervention carried out on the wall. It shows the consolidation of the wall surfaces using techniques that respect the original rammed-earth volumes, protecting the towers and creating a clean, well-maintained, and accessible setting from which to view the imposing silhouette of Monteagudo Castle in the background.

The second picture, from 2021 (below), shows the outer wall in a state of severe erosion. The rammed-earth walls appeared worn by the passage of centuries and the elements, surrounded by wild vegetation and featuring an irregular profile that threatened the collapse of the upper structures.

El Castillejo was a private property (before being acquired by the Murcia City Council), and an irrigation pond had been created within its grounds. Additionally, the building was overgrown with numerous wild plants.

It is currently open to visitors and included in the guided tour of Monteagudo Visitor Centre, subject to prior reservation (free of charge).
