The Clock House

 While exploring the coastal town of San Pedro del Pinatar, you can find one of the most distinctive architectural gems along the Mar Menor coastline: La Casa del Reloj (or Quinta de San Sebastián).

Built in the late 19th century for the Servet family, this Modernist-style villa, featuring Alpine influences, stands out for its red-tiled mansard roof and, most notably, the clock crowning its main facade. Beyond its undeniable heritage and architectural value, the estate holds historical significance as the place where Emilio Castelar, President of the First Spanish Republic, passed away in 1899.*

For about 25 years, it operated as a restaurant (until closing in 2020), serving as an extraordinary destination for both sightseeing and fine dining**. Currently, the San Pedro del Pinatar Town Council uses the space on an occasional basis to host guided cultural tours and historical heritage initiatives.

*As a friend of the Servet family, he was invited to stay at the mansion, presumably with the aim of improving the heart condition from which the distinguished figure suffered. President Castelar spent eight days in this idyllic setting. It is said that, having somewhat recovered, he was even able to enjoy a walk along the nearby beaches.
