Ceremonial Banners on Arenal Street.

 During the Feria de Murcia (September 3rd–15th, 2026), the city's central streets have been adorned with banners displaying the coat of arms of the city of Murcia (featuring seven crowns and the royal heart).

Six of the royal crowns were granted by King Alfonso X "the Wise" in recognition of the Kingdom of Murcia's loyalty. The seventh crown was later bestowed by King Philip V in the 18th century, following the War of the Spanish Succession, in acknowledgment of the city's crucial support for his cause.

At the center of the coat of arms stands a heart that symbolically guards the remains of Alfonso X "the Wise"; in accordance with his express testamentary wish, he decreed that his heart should rest forever in Murcia (where it is kept at the Cathedral's high altar).

The banners shown in the image are located on Calle del Arenal (Arenal Street). This name stems from the accumulation of sand and sediment naturally deposited by the Segura River in this low-lying area of ​​the city, right next to its channel. Before the surrounding area was developed in the 18th century, the river's floodwaters created a sandy expanse (arenal)precisely where the City Hall, the Episcopal Palace, and the Glorieta de España stand today.
