Color Turned into Sculpture.
This sculpture, located at the roundabout serving as the northern gateway to the city of Murcia (at the start of Avenida Juan de Borbón), is named *Frouida* and was created by the artist Cristóbal Gabarrón.
It depicts Frouida, the nymph of mountain torrents and thermal springs, and pays tribute to the 25th anniversary of the Tagus-Segura Water Transfer*.
It measures 30 meters from end to end and stands 9 meters tall. It is made of steel and fiberglass, finished in vibrant colors. It is also popularly known by names such as "the spider" or "the UFO" ...
It was inaugurated in late 2006.
*The Tagus-Segura Water Transfer (Trasvase Tajo-Segura) connects the Tagus River with the Segura River, covering a total distance of approximately 300 kilometers. It has been in operation for 47 years, since the first water arrived on March 31, 1979.
Construction began in 1969 (lasting approximately 10 years). Although it was initially planned under the 1933 National Hydraulic Works Plan and the project was revived in 1967.
