A Colourful Refuge from the Heat

 Strolling along  La Feria street (or Fair street) in Los Alcázares during the summer months is a pleasant experience, thanks to this striking overhead canopy.

This suspended structure of multicolored diamond shapes not only shields pedestrians from the sun as they walk through one of the town's main shopping and leisure areas, but also adds a cheerful, highly photogenic touch to the street. It is a perfect oasis for escaping the heat while enjoying a terrace or taking a walk toward the Mar Menor.

The name "Calle de La Feria" (Fair Street) traces its origins back to the festive and commercial history of Los Alcázares.

This area was historically the site of the fairgrounds and the "Real de la Feria" (the fair's main hub). It was here that fair vendors set up their stalls, booths, and entertainment venues, such as popular open-air cinemas and iconic cafés, where locals and visitors alike would gather during the summer festivities and patron saint celebrations.

As time passed and the municipality underwent urban development, the festival grounds gave way to a permanent street, yet the name forever preserved the memory of the festive spirit that gave it life. Today, it continues to honor that history, remaining one of the liveliest thoroughfares in the municipality, bustling with outdoor terraces and a vibrant atmosphere.
