Millions of Years Ago, Beneath the Sea.
Before the arrival of the Romans, the Iberians, or the Templars, Cehegín was... underwater.
One of the most spectacular display cases in its paleontological collection features a remarkably comprehensive array of ammonites. These prehistoric, spiral-shelled mollusks inhabited the seas of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. The collection ranges from tiny, perfectly defined specimens to massive pieces that reveal their fossilization in shades of ochre and reddish-brown.
