Ascending to the Past: The Staircase Guarded by Lions
Upon entering the former Council House of Cehegín and crossing the mosaic floor to reach the rest of the Archaeological Museum's galleries, you will come across this staircase.
An imposing lion carved from fine wood greets you at the start of the black wrought-iron balustrade, crowning the handrail. Yet, what truly makes this ascent special is how it incorporates the municipality's own history: ancient Roman stone relics, altars and millennia-old inscriptions recovered from Begastri, are displayed along the marble steps.
