La Casa del Concejo. Archaeological Museum of Cehegín.
A few days ago, we showed the flooring of this building. Now, its facade: the former Town Hall (Casa del Concejo), or current Archaeological Museum of Cehegín.
Before stepping through the doors of the Archaeological Museum, take a moment to admire the facade of the Casa del Concejo (a 17th-century building in the Baroque style). Once it was the old town hall and the jail, it welcomes visitors with an arcaded porch.
If you look closely at the pillars supporting the arches, you will see they are carved from reddish-hued jasper quarried right here in the local area. Above them sits the town’s coat of arms. The porch, crafted from limestone and polychrome wood, invite you to go to the interior, where you wil be welcomed by the polyhedral mosaic floor featured in a previous post.
