The Lady of Cehegín: A Roman Enigma Carved in Stone

The Lady of Cehegín is a Roman sculpture found at the local site of El Tollo; it is one of the municipality's most important archaeological pieces (the original is usually housed in the Archaeological Museum of Region of Murcia).

Carved from a 75-centimeter block of sandstone, this enigmatic female figure from the 3rd century AD (AC or CE) holds a mirror in her left hand and a vessel in her right. These objects were powerful symbols linked to the funerary realm and the journey to the afterlife during the Roman Empire.
